But, is that really such a bad thing? Here we are living a pretty great life in a society of abundance, and we have one holiday a year that's supposed to be about celebrating the ideals of eternal love. Lovers exchange gifts with each other, and nobody else, unlike other gift oriented holidays like Christmas and birthdays where either everyone gives and receives presents or one person gets presents from everyone else. It's traditional for couples to go out to dinner or spend an intimate evening alone and exchange gifts of love. And nobody tries very hard to pretend that it's all about spirituality or religion.
That doesn't sound so bad to me. I've always been of a romantic idealist at heart. Maybe it's OK to have a romantic Hallmark holiday and not try to make it about something more? The more I think about it, the more I like it. Why, yes, yes it IS OK. In fact, it's just fine with me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. What do you think?
My favorite romantic symbol besides hearts, is the Celtic Knot. Although not much was written about it by the Celts, it is commonly believed to be associated with eternal love. A Celtic Knot usually has no beginning and no ending, and symbolizes the never-ending cycle of life, and a timeless omnipresent love. And that is what I celebrate on Valentines Day. That's what it is about. Hearts and flowers are fine, too, as symbols of love and romance, but it is about what they represent, not what they are. Valentines Day is about celebrating love. It's not about bacon, or zombies, or God, or Hallmark cards. It's about love. And I'm all for that.
Here are some gift ideas featuring symbols of love, particularly the Celtic Knots. I hope you enjoy them, and that they give you some ideas if you need one. You can find lots more ideas and thousands of customizable gifts at our shop Design You World.
