Now, if you're making your best Grumpy Cat face and thinking "Valentines Day! Bah Humbug . . ." I beg you to reconsider. What could possibly be wrong with a holiday to celebrate love? Everyone needs love, dreams about it, is uplifted by it. Love makes us better people; kinder, more compassionate, more forgiving . . . happier. Love is a very good thing. So how could Valentines Day be otherwise?
So, if you have a love in your life, take a moment to thank the Universe for bestowing such a gift on you. You are one of the lucky ones. Be sure to find some way to tell those you love how much they mean to you today. At the very least, give them an extra long hug and tell them how much better your life is because they're in it. If you're not with them right now, send a special email just to say "I love you" and nothing else, or pick up the phone and reach out.
If you're in between romances right now, remember that it's temporary, and that the more you allow love in your heart the more you will attract love in your life. And then look around and find something you can do today to make someone else feel loved. Do you know someone who's feeling especially alone today? Reach out to them. Give them a call and tell them you're thinking about them, or better yet, pay them a visit. Bring them a treat to cheer them up or find something you can do to make their life a little better. Is there a household chore they're having trouble accomplishing by themselves? It might be something you can solve easily. Check their rain gutters to make sure they're not clogged, put that heavy storage box away in the top of the garage, make them something to eat, pick some flowers and put them in vase, fix their glitchy computer if you can, rent a movie you think they'd like and watch it with them. Whatever your skills and their needs, there will be some small thing that you can do that will make their life a little better and make them feel like somebody cares.
If you have a friend that's been hurt and is feeling really down on love, remind them it's just part of life's ups and downs in that big sea with plenty of fish. Take them out for a drink somewhere singles hang out and have fun, even if it takes a bit of pushing and prodding to get them go. If they won't go, rent an inspiring love story and fire it up in their living room. If you have a lot of single friends this year, invite a few of them over to watch it too, and you can all commiserate over popcorn.
Whatever your situation, remember that this is a day to honor love, something we all need and deserve, and acknowledge that it's a good thing. Behave in a loving way and the Universe will respond in kind.
